Mr. Brian Sidorsky
Mr. Brian Sidorsky has built one of Alberta's most successful integrated real estate businesses based upon the principles he learned at Junior Achievement.
He started his career in the furniture business and built southern Alberta's largest furniture and appliance store, which was the first acquisition by the Brick Warehouse in 1981.
"My father had a small used furniture store and I hadn't even realized what selling was and started practicing some of the techniques and some of the procedures that they were teaching us in Junior Achievement on sales, it just worked magic and all of a sudden I felt like I was a salesman thanks to Junior Achievement."
Subsequent to his work in the furniture store, Mr. Sidorsky became a successful developer of manufactured housing communities in both Alberta and Saskatchewan.
Through astute commercial and retail shopping centre acquisitions, Mr. Sidorsky built Lansdowne Equity Ventures. By taking a long term approach, Lansdowne assembled significant raw land holdings that have appreciated in value. In 2005 Lansdowne entered into the real estate development business through the strategy of land-use rezoning and site re-development to better utilize land.
"What you see is Lansdowne today, a company that's worth a lot; it's an extension of our Junior Achievement Company. The way we operate Lansdowne today is an extension of all the basic core values and principals that I learned in Junior Achievement."
Today, Mr. Sidorsky wants to give back to JASA Company Program students by encouraging them to gain knowledge through reading business and leadership books which had immense impacts on his success and journey. Please find below a list of 10 recommended books from Mr. Sidorsky.
